That evening we stopped at the Liard River Hot Springs Provincial Park. The Hot Springs sounded very appealing until we walked to it. The sulphur smell was so strong that it kept us from soaking in the spring water. That afternoon we took a drive that lead us to our first sighting of Woods Bison and a back road to the top of one of the mountains searching for bear.
June 26th we hiked to a water fall still no bears.
The bison are a highly intelligent animal as the picture would indicate. More Woods Bison, still no bears.
June 27th we finally saw bears and more Woods Bison on our way up to Watson Lake. Two Grizzly Bear and Six Black Bears to be exact.
At Watson Lake we stopped at Sign Post Forest. Some 70,000 signs have been places there by travelers. The Soldiers working on the Alaska Highway would place signs indicating how far it was to their home towns and the rest is history.
Lacey's travel companion Rocky.
June 28th we pulled out of Continental Divide Lodge at Swift River and have continued up the Alaska Highway to Whitehorse, Yukon. Beautiful scenery along the Teslin River and Pelly Mountains. We plan on spending a day or so exploring Whitehorse. At Whitehorse we are experiencing 21 hours of daylight and 3 hours of somewhere between dusk and dawn.
All bear no bells.
I hope that is as close as Margie gets to a bear. Where is your bell, Margie? Also, I think I saw a bear amid those bison. Get pics, keep them coming!
