June 25, 26th Liard River BC, June 27 Continental Divide Lodge Yukon, June 28th Whitehorse Yukon

For the last few days we've had no Internet access or cell phone coverage. June 25th left Toad River continuing up the Alaska Highway.  The photos below are of Muncho Lake with it's deep green and blue waters are attributed to cooper oxide leaching into the lake.

That evening we stopped at the Liard River Hot Springs Provincial Park.  The Hot Springs sounded very appealing until we walked to it.  The sulphur smell was so strong that it kept us from soaking in the spring water.   That afternoon we took a drive that lead us to our first sighting of Woods Bison and a back road to the top of one of the mountains searching for bear.

June 26th we hiked to a water fall still no bears.

The bison are a highly intelligent animal as the picture would indicate.  More Woods Bison, still no bears.

June 27th we finally saw bears and more Woods Bison on our way up to Watson Lake.  Two Grizzly Bear and Six Black Bears to be exact.

At Watson Lake we stopped at Sign Post Forest.  Some 70,000 signs have been places there by travelers.  The Soldiers working on the Alaska Highway would place signs indicating how far it was to their home towns and the rest is history.

Lacey's travel companion Rocky.

June 28th we pulled out of Continental Divide Lodge at Swift River and have continued up the Alaska Highway to Whitehorse, Yukon.  Beautiful scenery along the Teslin River and Pelly Mountains.  We plan on spending a day or so exploring Whitehorse.  At Whitehorse we are experiencing 21 hours of daylight and 3 hours of somewhere between dusk and dawn.
All bear no bells.

June 24 and 24 Alaska HighwayJune

June 23 we begin out trek up the Alaska Highway.  This is our little caravan.

First night of dry camping.  We stopped at a Provincial Park next to the Prophet River. The park  is also the location of an abandoned air field that was used by the US Army in 1942 as a staging area for construction of the Alaska Highway.
Photos taken along the Alaska Highway where we spotted mountain sheep.  This is more like it.

Evening of June 24th we stop at the Toad River Lodge and Campground at mile 422 Alaska Highway.  We backed our campers up to the lake created by beavers that had dammed the Toad River.  View from our rear window.

Moose watching from our camper.  That really is a moose across the lake

Did we mention how bad the mosquitoes are?

Having Fun..

June 21 and 22nd, Dawson Creek

After 46 and 3/4 hours of drive time and 2500 miles we have made it to Dawson Creek, British Columbia.  Dawson Creek is where we have met up with our friends George and Kim Edgerton We've taken two days off for R&R and to restock food and beverage, Liquor which we really needed.  We are at mile post O on the Alaskan Highway and will head out again in the morning.  The first picture was taken at a town named Beaver Lodge.
I believe we are headed to Toad River where we can dry camp along it's banks and watch the Moose swim.  Should be something to see.  The weather forecast is for rain, for the next few days.
Last picture, laundry day. The dryers were not up to speed so we had to improvise.  We are from Missouri after all.

June 20th from Whitecourt Alberta

Pictures from Shelby, Montana, sun set and Crazy Mountains.  Sunset and picture of Gary by the camper taken at 9:30 PM and the sun was just beginning to set.

We cleared Customs, didn't have to throw out any food.  Main concern was how much liquor we were bringing across and if we had a hand gun.  No hand guns but not nearly enough liquor.
Every where we go the rivers and streams are bank full and still lots of snow in the mountains.  Mosquitoes are thick and about to pack Gary off.

June 20, Whitecourt, Alberta.  We should be in Dawson's Creek tomorrow and hook up with George and Kim our friends from Redding California.

Lacey keeping an eye out for those bears.  She is our first line of defense.

Day one and two.

Wed the 15th. June not much happening.  The Missouri River had I-29 flooded and closed, Rock Port MO to Missouri Valley IA. We had to detour up US59 highway, not really out of our way but rougher than a cob.  We stayed at a IA State Park, Prairie Rose, at a lake that was very nice.  Wed the 16th, continued  through IA and into SD staying in Murdo, SD.  We came through Missouri Valley, IA and the entire city was sandbagged, no water yet.  Pictures at a Rest Area on I-90 over looking the Missouri River that has been dammed and turn into a lake.  All that water is headed for IA, NE, MO and into the Mississippi. One couple we met had come through Pierre, SD and stated that the whole city was sand bagged.  It's 8:36 PM and raining like the dickens but we're nice and dry.
